WILKES FOOTBALL LANDS TWO PRIZED RECRUITS IN STEARLY, JONES

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University head football coach Trey Brown announced that All-State lineman Kyle Stearly (Berwick) and running back Dustin Jones (Lake Lehman) have decided to pursue their academic and athletic careers at Wilkes next fall.

Stearly (6-3, 300-pounds) helped lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 10-0 regular season mark and a District II AAA title in 2013. Berwick moved through the AAA state bracket winning its first four games before falling to eventual state champion Archbishop Wood in the semifinals finishing the year at 14-1. Stearly was named First Team All-State as an offensive lineman as well as a Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) Football Coaches Association All-Star and Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association top football prospect.

 Jones (6-1, 250-pounds) led Lake Lehman to a 9-1 regular season record and a District II AA crown last season. The Black Knights advanced to the AA sub regional final before losing to Catasauqua ending their season at 11-2. As a full back, Jones was named First Team All-State as well as a WVC Small School All-Star and Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association top football prospect.

Wilkes will open its 2014 campaign September 6 against Muhlenberg at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
