Lycoming Football - Warriors move into AFCA poll

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – For the first time since 2003, the Lycoming College football team has earned a slot in the American Football Coaches Association poll, entering the third week of the poll in the 23rdslot in the Division III poll, the association announced on Monday, Oct. 6.

The Warriors, who are also ranked 20th in the D3football.com poll, are 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference, as the team is out to its best start since the 1999 team went rolled through an undefeated regular season.





Lycoming picked up 142 points in the poll after a 31-10 win over previously unbeaten Stevenson on Oct. 4, helping the team rise from the top team receiving votes and into the AFCA poll. The last time the Warriors were seen in the AFCA poll was during the final week of the 2013 season, when the team was ranked 13th after making a run to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.

The Lycoming defense is again one of the best in the nation through the first half of the season, sitting fourth in pass efficiency defense (74.58), fourth in sacks (4.6), sixth in total defense (208.0), sixth in red zone defense (0.500), eighth in third-down conversion defense (0.229) and 10th in scoring defense (10.0).

Lycoming is one of three MAC teams in this week’s poll, alongside 14th-ranked Widener and 24th-ranked Delaware Valley. The two teams are the next two opponents for the Warriors, as they face Delaware Valley at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Doylestown before hosting Widener on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
