EDWARDSVILLE – Wilkes University jumped out to a 28-8 halftime lead and added 24 more points in the second half to cruise past visiting FDU-Florham 52-21 Saturday afternoon in a Middle Atlantic Conference contest at Schmidt Stadium.

With the win Wilkes enters its idle week with a 2-3 overall record standing 2-2 in MAC play. FDU-Florham remains winless falling to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in league games.

Wilkes wasted little time finding the end zone as William Deemer (Washington Township, NJ/Warren Hills) capped off a seven play, 67-yard drive with a four yard touchdown run to put the Colonels up 7-0 following a Bryan Mellon (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) extra point.

After an FDU-Florham turnover, the Wilkes offense was back on the attack again. The Devils defense pushed the Colonels back deep into their own territory where Jeremy Hartman (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands Regional) was caught in the backfield and his own end zone for a safety cutting the Wilkes leas to 7-2.

FDU-Florham rode the momentum of the safety into its first score of the game as Tyler Maurer hit Tyler Adams for an eight yard touchdown pass to put the Devils ahead for the first time this season at 8-7.

9572The lead was short-lived though as Ryan Behrmann(Seven Valleys, PA/Dallastown) rushed in from one yard out to put the Colonels back on top 14-8 with 12:18 left in the second quarter.

Another one yard run, this time from PJ Incremona (Wood Ridge, NJ/Wood Ridge) extended the Wilkes lead to 21-8 following a long 14 play, 62-yard drive that took 4:50 of the second quarter. From there, quarterback Ryan Dailey(Easton, PA/Wilson) hit his tight end Hartman for a 34-yard touchdown pass down the left side of the field pushing the Wilkes elad to 28-8 at the break.

The second half was all Wilkes as Dailey (one yard run) and Paul martin (12 yard run) each scored rushing touchdowns for the Colonels in the third quarter as the advantage ballooned to 42-12.

Mellon added a 22-yard field goal in the fourth followed by a 21-yard touchdown run fromBrandon Latierno (Upper Saddle River, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) to cap off the Wilkes scoring in the contest, a season-high 52 points.

Wilkes found the endzone six times on the ground accumulating 222 yards on the rushing attack. Dailey was an efficient 25-for-30 passing for 306 yards and one touchdown. Hartman led the Wilkes receivers with a career-high six catches for 116 yards and one score.
