Wilkes Football Tabbed Eighth in MAC Preseason Poll

ANNVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University football team has been picked to finish eighth in the annual Middle Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released by the conference office Monday morning.

The Colonels were selected eighth out of the ten-team conference with 29 total points.

Defending MAC champion No. 12 Widener took the top spot with 81 total points and all nine first place votes. Delaware Valley followed in second place with 67 total points while Lycoming finished third in the poll with 62 total points. Albright (58 pts.), Stevenson (56 pts.), Lebanon Valley (39 pts.) and King's (32 pts.) were selected fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively, while Misericordia (16 pts.) and FDU-Florham (10 pts.) rounded out the poll in ninth and tenth.

Head coach Trey Brown, now in his second season at the helm of the Wilkes program, welcomes back a solid group of returners to the field in 2015 including All-MAC linebackerTanner Stengel (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and defensive end Jason Ugwu (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley).

Wilkes opens its 2015 campaign Friday, September 4 when the Colonels travel to Allentown, Pa. for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with No. 25 Muhlenberg College. Wilkes opens MAC play the following Friday night, September 11, hosting Delaware Valley under the lights at Schmidt Stadium. Homecoming is set for Saturday, October 3 when the Colonels clash with Widener.
