Widener Football - The Pride Delight Homecoming Crowd With Rout of Misericordia

CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2015) – Senior Robert Getz (Kunkletown, Pa.) rushed for three touchdowns in the second quarter to ignite the Widener University football team to a 40-10 rout of Misericordia on Saturday afternoon at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Pride broke loose by scoring 23 points in the second and never looked back. Getz reached paydirt three times in less than seven minutes to help give the hosts a 20-point cushion, and senior Ryan O'Hara kicked a 34-yard field goal to extend the margin to 23-0 at the recess.

Misericordia (0-6, MAC 0-5), which lost its 13 consecutive game dating back to last season, avoided the shutout when Jeff Puckett found Thomas Stelzer in the end zone for a four-yard completion with 4:48 left in the third. The Pride, however, quickly responded by scoring twice in four minutes with junior Alex Krivda (Sellersville, Pa.) tossing touchdown passes to senior Philip Ragona (Oceanside, N.Y.) and junior Haydn Warren (East Brunswick, N.J.) to make it 40-7 and put the game out of reach.

Krivda, who was making his first start at quarterback, exploded for 402 yards passing and two touchdowns to pace the Pride offensively. He also rushed for 38 yards on the ground. In addition to scoring three touchdowns, Getz finished with 47 yards and junior Blaine Price (Jefferson, Md.) caught eight passes for 140 yards.Brandon Jones led a Pride defense which yielded just 208 yards by registering 5.5 tackles, which including 2.5 sacks and four tackles for a loss. He also forced a fumble for the hosts.

Misericordia was paced by Puckett, who had 135 yards in the air and an additional 61 on the ground. He also threw one touchdown. Tyler Collins highlighted the defensive effort with a game-high 12 tackles.

Widener (4-2, MAC 4-1) will visits Stevenson for a pivotal Middle Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m.
