DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III poll has been released and Delaware Valley University has moved up one spot from last week to fifth, tying the highest ranking in program history. The Aggies also moved up a spot to ninth in the D3football.com Top 25 poll.

DelVal, which improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) with its 49-14 win over King’s College on October 14, received 1039 points in the AFCA poll. The Aggies now only trail defending champion Mary Hardin Baylor (Tex.), Mount Union (Ohio), Wisconsin-Oshkosh and St. Thomas (Minn.) in the poll. North Central (Ill.) was fourth in last week’s poll, but a 42-20 loss to Wheaton (Ill.) on Monday (game was postponed from the weekend) saw them drop 11 spots to 15th.

DelVal was fifth in the AFCA poll on one other occasion and that was at the conclusion of the 2005 season. The Aggies went 12-1 with their lone setback being a 27-21 loss to Rowan University in the NCAA quarterfinals. The finalists and semifinalists were ranked one through four in the final poll of that year with DelVal next at number five.

The Aggies have wins over two other teams in the AFCA poll. They opened the year with a 24-19 home win over Wesley College (no poll out then, currently ranked 14th) and went on the road to rout Albright College (then 24th, currently receiving votes), 41-6, on October 7.

For D3football.com, the Aggies received 414 points. The poll was released prior to the North Central loss, but DelVal and Wisconsin-Platteville flip-flopped spots from the previous week.

The Aggies are off this week. They will host MAC foe Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, October 28 (1 p.m.).
