Aggies Miller Named Top 2017 AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team

Senior Safety Shawn Miller (Laurel, DE/Laurel)
WACO (TX) – The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced today that Delaware Valley University senior safety Shawn Miller (Laurel, DE/Laurel) has been selected to the 2017 AFCA Division III Coaches’ All-America Second Team.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best – the coaches themselves.

Miller is the third Aggie to ever be named to the AFCA All-America Team as tailback Matt Cook earned the accolade in 2010 and wide receiver Rasheed Bailey was selected in 2014. It continues a list of postseason honors that Miller has received in 2017. He was earned a spot on the all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) first team for the third year in a row and was then a first-team pick for the D3football.com all-East Region Team (he was a second-team choice in 20160. The D3football.com All-America Team will be announced this Friday.

Miller was the leader of a DelVal defense that allowed just 10.5 points and 261.8 yards per game and was ranked in the Division III top 25 in a number of categories. Individually, he finished the campaign with 80 tackles, including 60 solo stops. Miller intercepted six passes and returned them for 172 yards and a record-tying two touchdowns.

Miller wrapped up his career as the school second all-time leader in interceptions with 16. His 444 yards and three scores are school records.

The Aggies were ranked as high as fifth in AFCA polls throughout the year, matching the program’s highest-ever ranking. They went a perfect 10-0 during the regular season and captured the MAC championship and the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs. They hosted three postseason games, including wins over Western New England College and Husson University. Their season ended with a 31-28, last-second loss to The College at Brockport in the quarterfinals.
