DOYLESTOWN — Duke Greco understands the landscape of Delaware Valley College — literally and athletically — as a graduate, a former two-sport athlete and a coach.

“I’ve spent close to half my life at DelVal,” said Greco, promoted to head football coach on the same day in March when Jim Clements became the head coach at Division II Kutztown. “I’ve been here almost 17 years. I love the people here at DelVal, and I really love DelVal football.

“This is my first head-coaching job, and honestly, I hope it’s my last. I want to be here. This is where I want to be.”

Greco appreciates the Aggies’ transformation into a perennially successful Middle Atlantic Conference program more than anyone else. He has lived virtually all of it the past 15 years.

When Greco added football in 1999 to his DelVal baseball career, the all-time leading passer at the time, Joey Shenko, was going into his senior year, so Greco played safety. Shenko eventually went down with a season-ending, midseason knee injury, and Greco had to wait until 2000 to learn the offense and to claim the starting job.

Greco finished in 2001 as DelVal’s second all-time leading passer — in just two seasons at quarterback.

A dearth of talent, however, doomed the Aggies to no more than three wins in those seasons.
