Annville, PA - The Lebanon Valley College football team doesn't ever want to forget last season and the many joyous experiences and wondrous accomplishments that came its way.

It just doesn't want to talk about it anymore.

Though they produced a 2013 campaign that will never be forgotten on the Annville campus by earning a share of their first conference title in more than four decades and advancing to the NCAA Division III playoffs, the Flying Dutchmen are focused on the here and now as they prepare for the 2014 opener on Saturday at basketball archrival Franklin and Marshall.

And with good reason, considering that the upcoming season has a chance to be at least as partially epic as the last.

"Last year hasn't been mentioned by our coaching staff or by our players," LVC head coach Jim Monos said on Thursday. "We've made a special effort to let this football team know that it's not based on last year, and that this is a new team. Our goals remain the same as they were last year, and that is to win the MAC championship. I don't want to live in the shadow of last year, so that's why we haven't talked about it."

Not that the memories aren't neatly tucked away in the corner of the minds of each player and coach who was a part of it.

"It was just a great experience for our football team, our coaching staff and our school," Monos said of 2013, which featured an 8-3 record and the aforementioned first conference crown since 1969. "It was a heck of a ride, really enjoyed it."
