Anthony Davis From No. 13 Widener Football listed as a Player to Watch by the College Gridiron Showcase

Holmen, WI (Oct. 17, 2014) – Senior All-America receiver/returner Anthony Davis (Upland, PA/Chester)by now is used to adulation and today he received more, being named to the College Gridiron Showcase Watch List.

Davis is just one of 25 Division III players being looked at to compete in the association’s All-Star Game, which takes place January 10, 2015 in Arlington, TX. The contest also will feature players from Division I FBS and FCS.

The selection of Davis is a logical one. The reigning Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year also has been picked first team all-league three times. Davis is first in school history with 5,654 career all-purpose yards, 216 career receptions and 1,561 career kickoff return yards. He also is second with 36 touchdown receptions, third with 3,180 receiving yards, third with 809 punt return yards and fifth with 40 touchdowns.

This season, Davis is 15th in the nation with 15.5 yards per punt return, second in the MAC with 93.8 receiving yards per game, tied for third with five touchdown catches, third with 5.8 receptions per game and sixth with 12.8 all-purpose yards per contest.

Widener (5-0, 4-0 MAC) is ranked 13th in the country according to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and 17th by D3Football.com. The Lambert Meadowlands Poll conducted by the ECAC has the Pride ranked fourth in the region among Division III schools.

Widener opens the second half of the regular season Saturday on Homecoming Weekend against Wilkes, starting at 1:00 pm.
