Delaware Valley Postseason - Aggies To Host Christopher Newport In First Round Of NCAA Division III Playoffs

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Not only was Delaware Valley College selected for the 2014 NCAA Division III Football Championships, but the Aggies also received a home game as they will host Christopher Newport University for a first-round match-up on Saturday, November 22 (12:00 p.m.). The announcement was made on a NCAA webcast on Sunday evening.

It’s the Aggies’ sixth trip to the NCAA tournament and their first since 2011. They reached the quarterfinals in 2004 and 2005 and the second round three straight seasons from 2009 to 2011.

This year’s edition went 9-1 in the regular-season and 8-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC). They were undefeated until yesterday’s 44-28 setback at MAC archrival Widener University in a game that determined the conference champion and the league’s automatic qualifier.

Delaware Valley could meet Widener again in the second round (November 29) if both teams are victorious in its first-round match-ups. The Pride battle Muhlenberg College in their contest.

Christopher Newport, located in Newport News, Virginia, captured the USA South title and finished 7-3 overall. It is the 10th NCAA appearance in 14 seasons of action for the Captains and its first-ever meeting with the Aggies.

The NCAA Division III playoffs are broken up into four brackets of eight teams apiece.

In addition to the Delaware Valley/Christopher Newport and Widener/Muhlenberg match-ups, the rest of the bracket includes Linfield College (OR) hosting Chapman University (CA) and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) hosting Texas Lutheran University.

There are no seeds in any of the brackets and the site of future round contests will be determined by the NCAA on the Sunday after each round. The NCAA Division III championship game – known as the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl – is on Friday night, December 19 (7:00 p.m.) in Salem, Virginia. The game will be is broadcasted live on one of the ESPN Networks.

Ticket prices for the Delaware Valley/Christopher contest, as per the NCAA, are $8 for adults and $4 for students. Tickets will go on sale starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and no complimentary tickets will be available.
