ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Albright junior Donte Thomas and senior Daniel Sobolewski each earned Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors the conference office announced on Sunday.

Thomas was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week and Sobolewski was named the MAC Special Teams Player of the Week after helping lead the Lions to a 27-10 victory over Widener on Saturday.

Thomas earned his first career player of the week honor after helping Albright shutdown the high powered Widener offensive attack. He scooped up a fumble in the first quarter and raced 63 yards for a touchdown giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, he halted a Widener drive by intercepting a pass on the Albright 11-yard line that helped the Lions take a 17-3 lead into halftime. He finished the game with four tackles and also added a defended pass.

Sobolewski had an outstanding game kicking the ball for Albright. He was 2-of-2 on his field goal attempts, including drilling a 51-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that pushed the Lions lead to 27-3.

He averaged 63.5 yards on six kickoffs and had three touchbacks and also averaged 46.4 yards on nine punts and pinned Widener inside its own 20-yard line on two occasions.

Albright will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 26) when it faces Lycoming in its first road contest of the season at 1 p.m.
