Wilkes Football - Colonels Falls at Albright

READING, Pa. – Albright College's Mike Knight finished 13-16 for 197 yards and added 89 yards and two touchdowns on 14 rushes to push the Lions over the visiting Wilkes University Colonels by a 62-9 final in a Middle Atlantic College matchup at Reading's Shirk Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes falls to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the loss while Albright improved to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in MAC contests.

Knight opened the game with a 16 yard rushing touchdown, giving Albright the 7-0 early lead following a Daniel Sobolewski extra point.

Following a 14 play drive by the Colonels that stalled at the Albright 24 yard line, Jordan Stiles (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) forced a turnover for the second consecutive week when he punched the ball out of Albright's Brian Wickkiser's grasp, recovered by Wilkes Robert Moyer (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh).

After the two teams traded three punts, with the Lions pinned at their own 13 yard line, Jason Ugwu(Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) ripped through the line for his second sack of the year, taking down Lions quarterback Alec Vignola in the end zone for the safety. The Colonels received the ensuing free kick with 59 seconds remaining in the first quarter, and turned it into a nine play, 71 yard drive capped off by aMarcellus Hayes (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) two-yard quarterback keeper to give Wilkes a 9-7 lead following a Carl von Glahn kick.

The final 11 Colonels drives resulted in ten punts and one turnover on downs, while Albright rattled off 55 unanswered points.

Ryan Dailey (Easton, PA/Wilson) finished 16 of 38 for 124 yards, with PJ Incremona (Wood Ridge, NJ/Wood Ridge) leading the rushing and receiving attack with 38 yards on 19 carries and five receptions for 46 yards. Isaiah Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA/Milton Hershey) and Tanner Stengel (Allentown, PA/Parkland) led the Colonels defense with nine and eight tackles, respectively. Both collected one sack along with Jason Ugwu (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) and Michael Fitz (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg), who had two sacks on the day.

The Lions were led through the air by Knight, and on the ground by Knight and Brian Wickkiser, who had 42 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Malik Gilmore paced the receiving corps with five catches for 94 yards and one score. Jamal Hayden led the Albright defense with six tackles.

Wilkes is on its bye this week, with its next action coming two weeks from today when it will host MAC opponent Lebanon Valley College on October 24th at 1 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
