The Battle for the Mayor's Cup

Actual Score Was: Wilkes 24 - King's 17
My only loss on this final week in the MAC, Wilkes takes home the Mayor's Cup. This game is always played on emotion. I don't understand really how this King's team keeps getting beaten. They are good, but I guess cannot "Finish" ballgames right now. Turnovers have also been their achilles heel. Well that happens. Hats off to Wilkes who has been struggling of late and gets the last win of the season, a great send off for the seniors last game.

King’s put themselves in a hole in the first quarter of this game as Carl Von Glahn scored on a 25 yard field goal, Brandon Latierno broke a 37 yard touchdown run and senior defensive back Jared Powell ran back a 48 yard fumble recovery for six points. The Monarchs never recovered in the game.

Will King's continue to battle, but not get the prize? Can Wilkes come out of their slump? This game always has a surprise, but this year I don't think anythink will be jumping out of the box! No, Wilkes will not pull off an upset this year. King's should keep this game well in hand as they are clearly the better team. They will put a stop to shooting themselves in the foot. Wilkes will end the year with just one big win over Delaware Valley.
My Prediction Was: King's 27 - Wilkes 13

The Battle for a share of the MAC

Actual Score Was: Stevenson 48 - FDU-Florham 25
With this win, the Mustangs moved into the Inaugural Centennial-MAC Bowl Series. FDU-Florham has a better year than in the past but still struggle to move their program into the middle of the pack in the MAC. Stevenson however is on the move finishing the year in a tie for second place with Delaware Valley.

Against FDU, the Mustangs only led at halftime 10-7, but the 24 point third quarter broke the Devil's back. The scoring was a rushing blitz by D. Williams, He scored on a 52 yard run, a 48 yard run and a 2 yard push into the end zone. Then  kicker Tim Sternfeld  added a 21 yard field goal. Add 14 more points in the 4th quarter and this game was over and in my win column.

Stevenson made a fantastic run at the MAC championship this year, but cannot get an invitation to the NCAA Post Season Play. If all cards fall in their favor, they could be co-champions of the MAC, but that probability is so slim, you won't see snake eyes Saturday! FDU-Florham will once again play well for half a game and give the Mustangs trouble, but Stevenson will catch their breath and win out. Finishing 8-2 will be their biggest prize to date after just five years in the MAC.
My Prediction Was: Stevenson 42 - FDU-Florham 24

A Battle for an NCAA Playoff Bid

Actual Score Was: Delaware Valley 20 - Widener 3
Tell me how this happens! Widener defeats Lycoming 48-7, DelVal is defeated by by Lycoming, and now Widener loses to the Aggies 20-3. Are you kidding me, the Pride could only muster up three points in this rivalry game? Did not see that coming although I did think the Aggies would win this game in a close one at home.

The Delaware Valley defense was the main story in this game as they had four interceptions, two of which were turned into points. The Aggies Nick Wright had a 21 yard pick six to go up on Widener 10-0 through the first period. Then Michael Jensen capped off an eight yard drive with a reception from Dashawn Darden for the touchdown.

If you are looking for a game to remember, this will be one of those games. Delaware Valley has a score to settle as Widener kept the Aggies out of the NCAA playoff last year. The Aggies are also at home and the crowd will be electric! Stung by Lycoming last week, Delaware has something prove. Are they as good as the polls said they were? Widener wants to spoil their day and win the Keystone Cup again. But I see DelVal squeaking by in this close hard fought game.
My Prediction Was: Delaware Valley 33 - Widener 27

The Battle for the MAC Championship

Actual Score Was: Albright 38 - Lebanon Valley 13
With their destiny in their own hands the Lions took charge of Lebanon Valley in Reading, PA. Star of the show was Albright’s Junior wide receiver Malik Gilmore. He turned in a brilliant performance catching a touchdown pass, throwing a touchdown pass and also blocking a field goal attempt.

Place kicker Daniel Sobolewski continued his outstanding season as he was perfect against the Dutchman. He kicked 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts and converted all three of his extra point tries.

Defensively, senior Jamal Hayden led the Lions defensive effort as he recorded 11 tackles, had 2.0 sacks and finished with 3.0 tackles for loss. Finally, Will Harrison intercepted a pass, which was his third of the season.

This game is a must see if you are in the area. Albright can control their own destiny. Defeat Lebanon Valley and they are the MAC Champions and go into the playoffs. If they lose and Delaware Valley defeats Widener, the Aggies win the right to the automatic bid into the NCAA Playoffs. And what is there to lose for Lebanon Valley, after all, they get Monday off if they upset the Lions. What is not to play for? I think Lebanon Valley will play well, but not have enough to keep Albright out of the MAC Championship and a trip to the playoffs.
My Prediction Was: Albright 30 - Lebanon Valley 24

The Battle for Pride

Actual Score Was: Lycoming 34 - Misericordia 17
The day belonged to Ryan Umpleby. He caught four passes for more than 30 yards (48, 55, 30, 51), helping him finish the year with 980 receiving yards. Umpleby is fourth in school history in this category. His 1,736 all-purpose yards this year are second in school history while running back Blake Bowman's 1,493 were sixth all time.

Bowman rushed 26 times for 180 yards, scoring three touchdowns and finishing the year seventh in school history with 1,150 rushing yards. His 17 rushing touchdowns and 18 total touchdowns scored are both single-season records.

Both Misericordia and Lycoming won last week. The Cougars won their first game of the year over Wilkes and Lycoming upset Delaware Valley. So both teams are on a high. I expect Lycoming to continue their stellar play and dash the hopes for Misericordia's back to back victories. Senior day in Williamsport, PA will be joyful for the Warriors.
My Prediction Was: Lycoming 34 - Misericordia 17
