Widener Football - Jones Garners Named D3Football All-American

BLOOMINGTON, Minn – Senior defensive lineman Brandon Jones (Baltimore, Md.) has been named a All-American, as announced by the organization on Friday evening. The captain made the second team.

Jones, who was named both the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the East Region Defensive Player of the Week, is the 12th player and third defensive lineman to be named an All-American by the national organization. He ranks fourth nationally in sacks (13), 10th in tackles for a loss (19.5) and 27th in forced fumbles (3). Jones’ best game was in the team's 40-10 rout of Misericordia when he recorded seven tackles, including six solo, along with four sacks and tackles for a loss of 29 yards. In addition, the senior captain helped Widener rank third nationally in sacks and tackles for a loss this past fall as well as eighth in total defense.

Jones has also been nominated for the prestigious Cliff Harris award, which is given to the top defensive player in the country representing Division II, III and NAIA colleges and universities. The announcement of the winner will be on Dec. 24.
