Jones Named Defensive Player of the Year
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior defensive linemen Brandon Jones (Baltimore, Md.) and Stacey Sunnerville (Freehold, N.J.) have been named to the All-East Region Teams, as announced by the national organization. Sunnerville made the third team, while Jones landed on the first team and was also named the region’s defensive player of the year.

Jones, who was also named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, ranks fifth nationally in sacks (13), 10th in tackles for a loss (19.5) and 27th in forced fumbles (3). His best game was in the team’s 40-10 rout of Misericordia when he recorded seven tackles, including six solo, along with four sacks and tackles for a loss of 29 yards.

Sunnerville joined Jones on what was arguably one of the most formidable pass rushes in the country this past fall. He ranks third in the country in both sacks (13) and tackles for a loss (21.5). Sunnerville also put together one of the most impressive single-game defensive performances in recent memory by registering 11 tackles totaling 22 yards for a loss along with five sacks and a forced fumble in a road win over Wilkes.

The duo of Jones and Sunnerville have helped Widener rank fourth nationally in sacks and third in tackles for a loss this past fall as well as eighth in total defense. Jones is also now currently eligible for All-America laurels.
