WATCH: Lebanon Valley Football Alum Joe Tomtishen Reveals Why The Dutchman

ANNVILLE, Pa. - This fall, Lebanon Valley alum Joe Tomtishen '07 was awarded the Dr. Clark Carmean Award in Admission. In conjunction with earning the esteemed honor, he sat down to reflect on his time as a student-athlete and the importance the school continues to have in his life.

Tomtishen was a standout on the defensive line and racked up 73 career tackles during his playing days. Following graduation, he spent three years on the Lebanon Valley sideline as an assistant coach. The following video captures Tomtishen's love the College, including his time as a member of the football program under LVC Athletic Hall of Fame head coach Jim Monos.

Tomtishen's honor came following his contribution in powerful ways in his professional career, his service to his local community, and his influence on future generations of Flying Dutchmen. He earned the Dr. Clark Carmean Award in Admission for his notable service to LVC's Admission Office, particularly with new student referral and recruitment.

The excerpt below is taken from the annual alumni awards luncheon:

A generous spirit, Tomtishen takes pride in sharing his unabashed love for LVC. As North Schuylkill High School's counselor and football coach, he encouraged 30 students to come to Lebanon Valley during the past decade. Nearly a third of them went on to play football for the Dutchmen. Tomtishen seeks out those who are good students and who demonstrate values such as self-discipline, a willingness to help others, love of family, and selflessness.

His love for LVC was evident when after graduation he joined the football coaching staff and commuted daily from Frackville for three years. When he made the difficult decision to relinquish that position, he assumed the role of recruiter for Schuylkill County and the surrounding area.

After leaving Lebanon Valley, Tomtishen went on to earn a master of education and secondary school counseling degree from Bloomsburg University. He and his wife, Megan, reside in Frackville and recently welcomed daughter Gretchen in September.
